ITWAK Guiding Principles:
Alaska is special, because it is wild. We want to keep it that way by going through our environment respectfully. We approach our business with this in mind, following the below guiding principles:
1. Following established Leave No Trace Principles and Ethics while trekking and camping.
2. Reducing our use of unsustainable products: using docusign and electronic-only registration rather than paper; driving only when we need to; buying good products that last a long time; shopping at our local consignment store and buying second-hand when possible rather than brand-new (especially with hardly used kids clothes! Check out The Hoarding Marmot in Anchorage – a real treasure trove of gear and our favorite place!); taking good care of our gear and repairing when possible.
3. We are always looking for new ways of improving ourselves and our ability to help protect the environment. Please let us know if you have a good idea!
At Into the Woods Alaska, our mission is to reconnect children and adults to nature in hopes that, when they are immersed in the beauty and challenge of trekking through the Alaskan wilderness, they will become advocates for protecting it.
We recognize that taking groups into this environment puts more strain on the ecosystem. A pillar of each of our trips and camps is the leave no trace approach to enjoying the outdoors: take only photos, leave only footprints.
Part of being a good guiding company, and what sets ITWAK apart from others is that we teach-we teach how to be safe, how to operate, what to wear, what to watch out for, and how to take care of the natural space you are borrowing from future generations.
