Our Afternoon Outdoor Explorers program will run through the remainder of the school year from 2:30 – 5 pm for ages 5-12. This program is designed to maximize the hours after zoom/homeschool when kids need to get outside and exercise. This Afternoon program offers daily bookings, but follows a theme over the course of each month; this way, kids can jump in at any time during the week and still have a chance to learn the weekly & monthly topics we are practicing.

What will we do? Through play, active & experiential learning, we teach kids how to be safe operators in the back country. What we teach largely depends on the season and the weather. Check out our November and December themes below. We meet each child where their needs are; some kids need a slower pace or are younger, while others need more of a challenge. Regardless of how they come to their outdoor skills, all ages can learn the concept of outdoor safety, and we are honored to help guide them on this path.

This November we are learning cold weather safety skills; in December we are continuing with this theme and adding orienteering, route-finding, and how to read and traverse a winter landscape.

Coming Soon: Badges and Certification

Coming soon, we will start offering Into the Woods Alaska certificates & badges for kids when they learn new skills. The criteria to earn these badges are that they must show proficiency in the skill 5 times and they must teach someone else. The skills start at the beginner level and as they grow older in the program and are able to dive deeper into the science behind each skill, they will be able to gain higher qualifications accordingly. We hold all youth in our programs to a high standard of respect, kindness, and safety, and kids seeking to earn a badge must strive to meet these ideals in order to level up.

Amazing experience for children! Both of our boys (age 4 & 6) had the best experience at the summer camp at Kincaid. Our 6 YO is currently enrolled in the Wednesday camp at Russian Jack and is loving that too. Awesome teachers and the kids learn so much about the great outdoors. Highly recommend.

I really appreciate how well the guides and staff communicate with us. My son is so happy to be outside playing, learning, and growing with his friends. This type of hands on, experiential learning, is exactly what I want for my son. Thank you!

I love everything about this camp! My daughter was one of the youngest kiddos at camp (age 4). She struggled a little in the beginning and complained so I reached out to Kristina. She took the time to listen to my daughters concerns and came up with a plan to provide extra support for my kiddo. The next day at camp, my kid came home raving about how much she loved it and she didn't have a complaint after that. My daughter loves to tell us all she learned in the camp when we are hiking with her and we have noticed a HUGE improvement with her abilities on the trail. She has become an awesome hiker this summer and I am beyond grateful 🤗

Wow 🙂 Finally a camp that gets kids into the outdoors, pushing their comfort zone (a little) and teaches them skills that they truly need to explore Alaska. We are so happy to have our 10 year old with Dan and Christina again with Into the Woods and look forward to exploring some overnight adventures and other offerings as well. What a great team who offer a huge value and experience for the kids. Very happy with the experience, value, and professional approach.

This is a great experience for Alaskan kids to explore the outdoors in a safe and educational setting, while also getting to spend their days outside and not cooped up inside. So far this has been a great experience for our kids and they never want to come home at the end of the day.
