***JULY 25 UPDATE***
With cases spiking in Anchorage and around Alaska, please take extra care to wear your mask and wash your hands a much as possible. Camps are going great and we are enjoying these last few weeks of summer before the school year would normally start.
Here is what we are working on going forward (stay tuned for a newsletter coming shortly):
- Introducing “Nature School”. We are working on setting up as a home school vendor, with our programs leaning into academic subjects within the context of getting into the woods. These courses will be 2-5 hours and will be paired with an optional online twin (more on that below). When we find guides in the target language, we will provide language immersion nature school.
- Our programs will now be divided into 4 age groups – A Preschool in the Woods (ages 3-6), YOEC (Young Outdoor Explorers Club, ages 5-9), JOEC (Junior Outdoor Explorers Club, ages 9-12), and the AYHC (Anchorage Youth Hiking Club, ages 13-18). Check out our CALENDARS page, which has the most up-to-date times, locations, as well as our Youth Outdoor Studies Tabs in the menu above with the most up-to-date offerings and descriptions.
- Nature School will have an online counterpart. Our new digital content platform serves more than one purpose; in addition to providing content for our social-distancing situation, it is part of a large plan to develop a comprehensive Home School Program. Our digital platform will help reinforces what our students are learning outdoors. Our Home School Outdoor Studies Program has two pillars: experiential and didactic learning.
